Grand Haven’s varsity girls tennis team scored an impressive 6-2 win over Grandville on Monday.

Erin Staal picked up a solid win at No. 1 singles, defeating Isabella Buck, 6-3, 6-4.

Julia Bachmann won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, while Gretchen Kelly won 6-1, 6-3 over Brynn Meulenberg at fourth singles.

The Bucs’ doubles teams played well, with Melissa Eveland and Ellery Murphy won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.

Nicolette Birkett and Josie Hendrickson won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3, while at fourth doubles, Ameilia Donohoe and Hailey Watkins won 6-0, 6-2.

The Bucs (3-3-1, 2-2-1 O-K Red) host Grand Rapids Catholic Central on Thursday, then compete in the O-K Red Conference tournament on Saturday.

“Even though Hudsonville and Rockford are favored going into the tournament this weekend, I believe we can play with these teams and make it interesting,” said Bucs’ coach Jeremy Case.

TROJANS TIE FREMONT

Fruitport scored three singles victories against Lakes Eight Conference foe Fremont on Monday, but managed just one doubles win in a 4-4 tie.

Anna LeBeouf, Rebekah Busscher and Kaitlyn LaBash scored singles wins for the Trojans.

The duo of Mackenzie Portenga and Lauren Doctor scored Fruitport’s lone doubles win at No. 2.
