SL tennis topples rival Fruitport

Spring Lake’s varsity girls tennis team had little trouble getting past Fruitport on Tuesday, winning 7-1.

The Lakers won three of the four singles matches, then swept the doubles flights.

Spring Lake’s Meryn Campbell knocked off Fruitport’s Alissa Selle at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

At No. 2, Roxane Stroebel won 6-0, 6-0, while at No. 3, Erika Kugler beat Rebekah Busscher, 7-6 (1), 6-0.

The Trojans’ lone win came at fourth singles, where Kaitlyn LaBash beat Maddie Johnson, 6-2, 6-1.

Faith Lee and Jori Hendrson won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while at No. 2, Audrie Dalman and Megan Oostindie won over Mackenzie Portenga and Lauren Doctor, 6-0, 6-2.

Gretta Nyboer and Francie Bailey won over Donnalee Gilbert and Leghann Newmyer at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 4, the Lakers’ Suchlee Singh and Allison Dinneweth won 6-0, 6-0 over Allyson Breese and Maggie Burgess.

On Monday, the Lakers fell to North Muskegon, 6-2.

In that match, the Lakers’ wins came at No. 1 doubles, where Lee and Henderson won 7-6 (6), 6-1; and at No. 2 doubles, where Dalman and Oostindie won 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
