The Buccaneers’ Brentton Smith turned in a memorable performance on Friday, leaping 20 feet, 11 ½ inches to win an O-K Red Conference championship in the long jump.

Smith was Grand Haven’s lone conference champion as the Bucs hosted the league meet at Buccaneer Stadium.

East Kentwood’s boys and girls both took home team conference crowns.

The Falcons’ boys ran away with the title, finishing with 282 points, easily outdistancing Rockford (84), Grandville (81), West Ottawa (64), Grand Haven (58.5) and Hudsonville (57.5).

In the girls’ competition, East Kentwood won a close meet over Rockford, 176 points to 170.5. Hudsonville was third (115.5), followed by Grandville (81), Grand Haven (44) and West Ottawa (43).

Smith also finished fifth in the 400-meter run in a time of 52.80 seconds.

Grand Haven’s Collen Casey had a strong showing, taking third in both hurdles races while placing fifth in the long jump at 20-4 1/3. Casey clocked a time of 41.50 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles and finished the 110-meter race in 15.50 seconds.
