Bucs' baseball wins twice at Byron Center

The Grand Haven baseball team went 2-0 at the Byron Center Invitational on Saturday.

Grand Haven beat Wayland in Game 1, 11-2, before squeaking by host Byron Center, 5-4. 

The Buccaneers had 13 hits on their way to the Game 1 win.

Tanner Jonas touched home plate twice, while Chad Mattson, Elliot Martin and Nathan Bonter each added a run apiece. 

Hayden Modaff led Grand Haven with four RBIs, including a triple in the fifth that brought home three. Jared Kelly and Bonter each added two. 

Johnny Miller was the winning pitcher, giving up two runs in five innings of work. Chad Mattson finished the game for Grand Haven. 

In Game 2, Bonter was a perfect 4-for-4, with two runs and an RBI. Connor Grimes, Bonter, Modaff and Jonas each had one RBI as well. 

John Cahalan earned the win for the Bucs, giving up four runs in six innings from the mound.

Miller, who got the staring nod in Game 1, entered in the seventh inning with one man on and no outs. He got three straight outs to preserve the win.
