Lakers' baseball remains atop Lakes 8

Spring Lake, Fruitport both sweep Ludington in league twin bills

Pitchers Dillon Groover and Jorge Lozano each tossed a gem to lead Spring Lake’s varsity baseball team to a sweep of Ludington on Wednesday.

Groover pitched Game 1 and struck out 11 while allowing six hits and two earned runs in a 13-5 victory.

Kyle Houts and Kyle Zietlow were each 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs while Mark Williamson went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs for the Lakers.

In Game 2, Lozano fanned 12 and allowed just one walk and one hit. Both runs were unearned in a 9-2 Lakers’ win.

Houts went 3-for-5 and Zietlow 2-for-4 in the contest. Williamson was also 2-for-4 and drove in a pair, while Isac Bench went 3-for-4 and drove in three.

TROJANS SWEEP ORIOLES

Fruitport took a pair from Lakes Eight Conference foe Ludington on Tuesday, winning 10-3 and 4-2.

In the opener, Travis Grimm threw seven strong innings, striking out nine and walking two. He also swung a hot bat, going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Jason Carmean added a pair of hits and three RBIs, while Kolin Lakatos banged out a two-run homer. Austin Curtis added two hits for the Trojans (9-10, 4-2 Lakes Eight), while Chad Large had a pair of hits for the Orioles.

In Game 2, Curtis fanned eight batters and walked just two over seven innings. He worked his way out of a bases-loaded, no-outs jam in the first with only one run allowed.

Alex Bowen and Mitchel Reyes each had two hits. Large again had two hits for Ludington.
