Haven baseball splits Saturday contests

The Grand Haven baseball team split against two different opponents on Saturday.

Grand Haven lost to Hastings, 6-5, and defeated host Grand Rapids Christian, 7-5.

Jon Cahalan gave up just two hits in the loss against the Saxons.

Elliott Martin went 3-for-4 with two hits, and three RBIs. Hayden Modaff added two RBIs.

John Wickey got the start for the Bucs against the Eagles, giving up eight hits and fanning four batters in the win.

Connor Grimes and Tanner Jonas both went 2-for-3 from the plate, while Jonas added a run.  

On Friday, Grand Haven lost to visiting Hudsonville in a 17-inning dogfight, 5-4.

Grimes got the start for the Bucs, giving up two runs (one earned) in seven innings. 

Jared Kelly relieved Grimes, striking out 10 with one walk in nine innings of work.

Kelly also did work from the plate, going 4-for-7 with two doubles.
