Spring Lake junior Ben Kramer fired a round of 75 at Friday’s Division 2 golf regional event at Cedar Chase Golf Course.

That score qualified him as an individual for next weekend’s state finals.

As a team, the Lakers struggled a bit and shot a 331, good for fifth place. Only the top three teams and top five individuals not on those top teams advance to the state meet.

“We were close,” said coach George Bitner. “But the course was tough. It’s always a very tough course.”

Bricker Reed narrowly missed out on advancing as an individual, shooting a 78. Brendon Peel carded an 86, while Ryan Johnson shot a 93 and Tanner Debien shot a 103.

The state meet will be held next Friday and Saturday at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing.

Kramer becomes the second member of his family to reach the state meet this school year. His sister, freshman Anna Kramer, placed fourth overall at the girls’ state finals, helping the Lakers as a team place third.
