The Grand Haven Board of Education on Monday approved William “Scott” Robertson as the Buccaneers’ new athletic director.

Robertson previously served as athletic director at East Grand Rapids for five years before spending the past three years as activities director with Traverse City Area Public Schools.

“We are excited to have someone in this role with Scott’s background and experience,” said Grand Haven Superintendent Keith Konarska.

Robertson takes over for Robin Bye, who died April 12 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Robertson brings a wealth of athletic and administrative experience to Grand Haven. His coaching stints include 15 years as a head football coach, along with eight years as an assistant baseball coach, and three years each as a track and field and wrestling coach.

“I’ve got a fairly diverse set of experiences myself as a coach, a teacher and an administrator, and I like to think I’ve learned a lot along the way,” Robertson said. “My time at East Grand Rapids gave me an opportunity to be a part of, and to learn from, some pretty outstanding coaches in a wide variety of sports.”

He left tradition-rich East Grand Rapids to revitalize the youth sports programs in the Traverse City district.

Robertson and his wife, Christine, have one daughter, 18-year-old Madeline. A standout basketball and volleyball player, Madeline earned a volleyball scholarship from Western State University in Colorado.

Wonder why he left his last two jobs? EGR and TC are nice schools, maybe he can find a great football coach for Grand Haven. Hope to see him at opening of pratice.

And so it begins - I really think the Trib should eliminate readers comments.

So, whats bothering you mamaof2 , many of us here enjoy adding our 2 cents in to the everyday stuff that tribune write,s,

Robin left big shoes to fill as the smiling face of GH Athletics!!
I'm sure Robertson will do fine, but I wish the job would've gone to one of the long term GH resident/teacher applicants!!

That,s what i was thinking !!!

School board finally did service to Grand Haven Athletics. Union nepotism has always brought mediocrity. Hope new A.D can recognize mediocrity and have gumption to remedy without worrying about politics.

Since he comes by way of East Grand Rapids and their colors are also Blue and Gold, maybe he could bring back our traditional football uniforms we had for many, many years in stead of the stupid looking things we have seen the past few years. It is always good to see highlighta of East Grand Rapids games on TV and see the uniforms we used to have and wore proudly. The last football coach took upon him self to change to those new "Jetsons" looking things.
