There is a golf league where good play is rewarded with chocolate, where no one cares who they play with and where a shot in the sand is not a stroke counted against a player.
It’s in your backyard — and it’s growing.
Tuesday evenings at the Grand Haven Golf Club are filled with ladies of all ages who are looking to improve their game and have a good time. They are the members of the Fun in the Sun League.
Kirk Sherman, a PGA member professional and director of golf for the Grand Haven Township club, tries to employ a “life is a beach” philosophy at Fun in the Sun.
“If Jimmy Buffet was a girl, he’d play in this league,” Sherman said.
The program has grown from 12 members in its inception five years ago, to its current crop of 60. Sherman, who has been with the course for three of the five editions, attributed the growth to the league’s relaxed mentality.
