For many women, their 40th birthday is one they’d rather forget. Not so for Grand Haven’s Robyn (Seifert) Decker

For her, June 12 is a day she’ll always remember.

Decker ran 40 miles on her 40th birthday — and if accomplishing that incredible feat of endurance wasn’t enough, her husband, Bruce, made it even more special by lining up several family members and friends to help Robyn finish her run.

“It was beyond my wildest dreams,” Decker said. “It’s unspeakable. If you could have a perfect birthday memory, that was it. To see your kids all grown up, your family, husband, friends, people giving their time, just for me, wow. Talk about it being all about me. It was amazing.

“It’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever felt and experienced.”

Decker didn’t grown up a runner. Instead, she swam competitively and played soccer. Running was the furthest thing from her mind.

“I always hated the running part of soccer,” she said with a laugh. “But after college, I moved back, and I did a Fifth Third Riverbank Run. Then I thought, ‘If I can do that, I could do a marathon.’ So 10-11 years ago, I started running a little bit.
