Grand Haven’s Joe Duff and Gabby Hentemann were the winners of the Pigeon Creek Twilight Run, held this past Friday.

Duff, 22, is the Grand Haven High School record-holder in the 5K (cross country) and the 3,200-meter run (track). He now runs at Grand Valley State University.

Hentemann, on the other hand, is just 13 years old and is entering eighth grade at Lakeshore Middle School next year.

Duff turned in the top overall time, finishing the 5K course in 16 minutes, 37 seconds.

Hentemann was the first female finisher and placed 22nd overall in a time of 21:17.

Second place overall went to 14-year-old Jack Nicholson of Grand Haven, who crossed the finish line in 17:29. Third was former Buccaneer runner Schalk Vanniekerk, 21, who clocked a time of 18:34.7. Joe Sherman, 18, of Grand Haven placed fourth in 18:39.43.

A total of 118 runners competed in the event, which is a fundraiser for the Buccaneers’ high school and middle school cross country programs.
