GH Golf Club to raise funds for military families once again

The Grand Haven Golf Club is attaining national recognition for what is truly a national cause.

PGA member professional and director of golf, Kirk Sherman, will be featured in the August edition of PGA Magazine talking about Patriot Golf Day and the foundation it raises funds for — The Folds of Honor.

The event, which was started along with the foundation in 2006 by co-owner Major Dan Rooney, takes place Wednesday at the Grand Haven Golf Club.

Sherman said that he and the club were featured because they were one of the most successful — in what has become a national event — at raising money for families who have had a military member die or become severely injured in battle. Grand Haven typically raises between $30,000 and $40,000 annually for the cause.

“Basically it’s a passion,” Sherman said. “I really have that passion — in my soul — to raise money in that golf outing, in order to help families out; young people, that their parents are severely injured or killed in the fight in Iraq or Afghanistan. It’s a great cause, and it’s near and dear to my heart. Dan Rooney is a really good friend of mine, but (it’s) not only that, it’s a really great cause.”

Grand Haven always makes sure that the day is truly an event, and Wednesday will be no different.
