Thom will host his second junior camp of the summer next week at the Grand Haven Golf Club. Sessions will run on Tuesday through Friday, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. The cost is $85.

“It’s just a good way for these kids to get introduced into the game,” Thom said. “It’s more for beginners, … more for the youngsters. I have a lot of 7-, 8-, 9-year-olds that obviously can’t go out and play on their own.”

Children ages 6-14 are eligible to sign up for the camp. Players will be divided into groups based on their age and skill level.

Thom stressed that safety will be the first priority during the week, followed by fun. Kids will play a variety of golf games with different snacks and prizes available.

Thom said he is hopeful to have about 25-30 youngsters sign up, like in June, but that he would be able to take up to twice as many.

“It’s the future of the game, these kids are it,” Thom said. “If we don’t get these kids involved the game is going to be a dying game. … If we can keep it fairly cheap for these kids, and get them introduced, they can grow into it and like the game.”

Parents of potential players can sign up by contacting Thom at troy@grandhavengolfclub.com, or visit the pro shop.
