It was a perfect sailing day for the Commodores Invitational Regatta on Saturday, and members of the Grand River Sailing Club did not disappoint in the 11.5 nautical mile trek from Grand Haven’s north pier to the Muskegon’s south pier.

The Spinnaker fleet was dominated by the Muskegon Yacht Club boats with Aaron Scott’s J80, Jalapeno, taking first place overall. In Division 3, Grand Haven’s Tom Morell piloted Surface Tension to a second-place finish. Denny Dryer’s Frank Lloyd Starboard, took third, and Duane Schroeder’s Avanti placed fourth.

The one-division Jib and Main Fleet was dominated by the GRSC with John Campbell’s Peggy Dash II, taking first overall, and Jack Kelley’s CC Rider capturing second.

Ross Carter’s Far Niente, took third overall. Carter was followed by Wayne Ritchie’s PAX in fourth and Patti Edwards’ 4 Sail in fifth.

The next offshore sailing race is the Anchorage Cup, to be held on Sept. 6. Sponsored by the Anchorage Yacht Club, the Cup’s start is hosted by the GRSC and will begin off Grand Haven and finish at Holland.
