Soccer roundup: Fruitport claims program's 200th victory

Fruitport scored a dominating 9-0 victory over Whitehall in girls soccer action on Wednedsay. The win was the 200th for the Trojans' program, which just began its 19th season. Haylie Hanks and Lindsye Haan each scored three goals for the Trojans. Kaelyn Laufersky, Alex Kamp and Debbi Pekel scored single goals for Fruitport. Laufersky also had two assists, as did Lauren Hazekamp. The Trojans held a 32-0 advantage in shots on goal. BUCS COME UP SHORT Grand Haven suffered a 2-1 loss to Holland Christian on Wednesday.

The Maroons grabbed a 2-0 lead before the Buccaneers’ Brook Spruit scored Grand Haven’s lone goal in the closing minutes. Sarah Kober had the assist on Spruit’s goal.

Junior Varsity: Claire Borchers scored twice as the Bucs beat the Maroons, 2-0. Alyssa Rozelle and Mallory Beswick had the assists while Stephanie Sedgewick earned the shutout in goal.

Freshmen: Grand Haven scored a 2-1 win over Hudsonville on Wednesday behind goals from Maggie LaLonde and Miranda Petersen. Ellyse Vandyke, Michaela Andrini, Alyssa Hayward and Caitlyn Ploeg played well on defense.
On Tuesday, the Bucs lost to Rockford, 5-0.
