Unexpected snowfall leads to sports cancellations

The unexpected snowfall overnight has led to several cancellations of area prep sports events today. Grand Haven High School's athletic department announced that today's varsity and junior varsity tennis and softball games have been canceled, as has the junior varsity golf competition scheduled for today. The girls' lacrosse game against Lowell has been postponed, and practice has been canceled for the varsity golf team.

The lone varsity contest scheduled at Spring Lake is a girls’ soccer game at home against Orchard View. That contest will likely be played.

At Fruitport, the Trojans’ tennis match against Big Rapids has been canceled while the junior varsity and varsity soccer games against Grant are expected to be played.

Western Michigan Christian has not yet made any determinations about the status of its scheduled baseball, softball and soccer contests.
