Prep soccer roundup: Lakers, Trojans remain unbeaten in Lakes 8

Spring Lake's varsity girls soccer team mercied host Tri-County on Monday as the visiting Lakers scored an 8-0 victory. Spring Lake improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in league play thanks to a pair of goals each from Katie Smith and Sierra Gipson. Katie Albright, Emily Walling, Molly Miedema and Sarah Park each added goals for the Lakers.

“We played pretty well as a team,” Lakers’ coach Jeremy Thelen said. “Katie Miedema played defense and really led the team. It was nice to come out and get a nice win. The girls passed well and they really pressured them up. I hope that continues.”

The Lakers play at Newaygo on Wednesday.

Fruitport also remained unbeaten in league play with an 8-0 win over Fremont.

Linsye Haan had three goals and two assists for the Trojans. Jessica Erny, Kelli Crow, Kaelyn Laufersky and Jordyn Stanberry each scored single goals while Deborah Pekel provided three assists.

Lindsay Armstrong was the winning goalie for Fruitport (5-0-3, 3-0 Lakes Eight).

The Trojans host Ludington on Wednesday.

Junior Varsity: Spring Lake mercied Tri-County, 8-0. Shelby Komar opened the scoring for the Lakers, and Rachel Pennington finished with three goals.
