College Showcase: Kendro sets records at Davenport

Spring Lake graduate Chris Kendro is quickly establishing his name in the Davenport University track record books. At the the past weekend's Hillsdale College's Gina Relays, Kendro, a sophomore, set a new record in the long jump, as he cleared 22 feet, 1/4 inch. The distance placed him eighth at the meet - the third-largest meet in the country that weekend.

Also this spring, Kendro has run a season-best 22.88 seconds in the 200 meters. Kendro is also a member of the Panthers’ 4x100 relay team that qualified for NAIA National Championships in Marion, Ind., on May 26-28.

Kendro also holds the school’s indoor long jump school record (21-9) and is part of the outdoor 4x400 relay team that has a program-best time.


Western Michigan Christian High School graduate Michelle Busscher, a senior at Calvin College, was recently named to the All-MIAA second team for her accomplishments on the Knights’ women’s tennis team.

Busscher was 7-1 at No. 3 singles this year for the Knights, and also went 2-0 in singles play at the MIAA Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

Over the course of her collegiate career, she was 26-5 in singles action in MIAA dual match competition.
