Baseball roundup: Keller tosses another gem for Lakers

Nick Keller threw another outstanding game for the Spring Lake varsity baseball team, helping the Lakers split with Tri-County in a Lakes Eight Conference doubleheader. Keller, who threw a no hitter two weeks ago, tossed a complete-game shutout against the Vikings on Tuesday. He struck out seven and walked eight while allowing just two hits in the Lakers' 3-0 win. BUCS COME UP SHORT Five errors doomed Grand Haven's varsity baseball team in a 7-2 loss to Rockford on Tuesday.

Grand Haven starter Adam Poel went 6 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and just three earned runs. He walked to and struck out two. Mike Ginocchio came in and got the game’s final out.

FRUITPORT TOPS FREMONT

Fruitport collected 12 hits and received a strong pitching performance from Cody Bayle in its 10-5 win over Fremont on Tuesday. The teams were tied at 5-5 in the seventh inning in Game 2, which was called due to darkness.

WMC SWEEPS FREEDOM

Western Michigan Christian swept a doubleheader from Hudsonville Freedom Christian, winning 3-2 and 12-7.

The Warriors scored six runs in the first inning of Game 1 and cruised to victory. Omari Lewis struck out eight batters and belted a triple. Tim Schuitema and Jake Wall each added doubles for WMC.
