Track roundup: SL girls win twice at double dual

Spring Lake's girls won three of five field events and Brittany Beeler finished first in a pair of distance events in the Lakers' track wins over Orchard View and Tri-County on Tuesday. The Lakers defeated the Cardinals in the double dual by a 110-22 score, and beat the Vikings, 101-36. Spring Lake is now 5-0 in the Lakes Eight Conference. Beeler won the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 32.15 seconds, and easily took the 3,200 in 11:42.77.

Kathryn Rumptz won the long jump (15 feet, 6 inches), Becca Mumby was victorious in the high jump (4-9), and Allie LeRoux cleared 8 feet to win the pole vault.
Spring Lake’s girls also won three of four relay events.

SL BOYS FALL

Orchard View won 13 of 17 events during a Lakes Eight Conference tri-meet on Tuesday, helping the Cardinals defeat Spring Lake and Tri-County.

Spring Lake featured a pair of winning performances, including Chad Eagin in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches, and Stephen Annese in the long jump at 18-2. Jake Mundt was runner-up in the event with a leap of 17-10.

WMC BOYS TOP HEIGHTS

Western Michigan Christian’s boys track team defeated Muskegon Heights on Tuesday, 77-51.

The Warriors had a pair of multiple winners in Deon Fox and Jason Jackson. Fox won the 110-meter hurdles and 300 hurdles, while Jackson won the 400 and 200 dashes. Other winners included Brian Brook in the 1,600; Zach Butler in the 800; and Nathan Taylor in the 3,200.

WMC also won the 3,200 and 1,600 relays.

WMC’s girls loss to Heights, 68-32. Elyse Rya won the high jump and 800 meters; Adrienne Aardema captured the 1,600 and 3,200 runs, and the 3,200 relay was victorious.
