Track roundup: GH teams blaze past Panthers

Grand Haven's boys and girls track and field teams each scored wins over West Ottawa on Thursday. The Buccaneer boys scored a tight 71.5-65.5 victory, improving to 4-3 in league competition. Strong showings in both hurdles events gave the Bucs a boost. James DeWitt won both the 110-meter hudles (15.3 secons) and the 300 hurdles (41.1 seconds). Zack O'Brien was second in the 110 hurdles (17.4) while Steve DeWitt was second in the 300 hurdles (43.1).

Joe Duff won a pair of races, taking the 1,600 run in 4 minutes, 31.2 seconds. He also won the 3,200 run in 9:44.7.
Schalk Vanniekerk won the 300 dash in 52.1 seconds.

The Bucs also dominated the throwing events. D Sauleone won the discus with a toss of 130 feet, 3 inches, and took second in the shot put at 42-11. Torey Appel won the shot at 44-6, while Jacob Johnson was second in the discus with an effort of 111-0.

Alex Smith was second in the high jump at 5-10, while J DeGryse took second in the pole vault at 12-0.
Joe Duff, Adam Winebarger, A Cramer and Vanniekerk teamed up to win the 3,200 relay in 8:39.8.
