Soccer roundup: SL gives No. 1-ranked Unity Christian a scare

For over 70 minutes, Spring Lake's varsity girls soccer team went toe-to-toe with Hudsonville Unity Christian, a team ranked No. 1 in Division 3. But in the closing minutes, Unity scored a soft goal, then added another as the Lakers were scrambling to tie the game, finishing off a 2-0 victory for the Crusaders. Thelen credited sophomore defenders Leeann Latsch, Molly Miedema and Hailey Pellegrom, along with junior Kendall Meyers, with outstanding play against the Crusaders. WMC FALLS TO MCC

Two great first-half goals put Western Michigan Christian up 2-0 at intermission Thursday, but host Muskegon Catholic Central took charge the second half and put three in the net to take a 3-2 win.
