Weerstra's return sparks SL softball

The return of senior pitcher Sam Weerstra sparked the Spring Lake varsity softball team to a 3-2 victory over Ravenna in a non-conference contest at Wanrooy Field in Spring Lake on Monday. Weerstra missed the last four weeks of action due to a badly sprained ankle. Monday, she pitched five innings of two-hit softball, while striking out six and walking just two. "She retired the first nine batters she faced,' Spring Lake coach Bill Core said, whose team is now 6-9 overall. Cassie Appel pitched the final two innings to earn the save.
