Spring Lake track tops pair of league foes

Spring Lake's boys track and field team scored a pair of Lakes Eight Conference wins on Wednesday, beating Ludington, 86-51, and Fremont, 80-56. Chad Eagin had another strong showing for Spring Lake. The senior won the 110-meter hurdles in 17.27 seconds, with teammate Alex Keast in second place at 17.42. The same pair finished 1-2 in the 300 hurdles, with Eagan winning the event in 42.88 seconds. Eagan also won the high jump for the Lakers, clearing the bar at 6 feet.

Stephen Annese also had a great meet for Spring Lake. He ran away from the field in the 100 dash, winning with a time of 11.93 seconds. He was a part of two relay victories, and he also won the long jump with a leap 19 feet, 1 1/2 inches. Teammate Johnny Mundt placed second at 18-9 3/4.


The Lakers’ girls also went 2-0 on Tuesday, defeating Ludington, 99-38, and Fremont, 121-16.

Spring Lake dominated the relay events. Samee Chittenden, Brittany Beeler, Ashley Warner and Cory Cook won the 3,200 relay in 10:18.89. Rosie Sietz, Megan VanDeWeg, Ymani Williams and Lydia Suchecki won the 800 relay in 1:57.33, while Becca Mumby, Brianna Brady, Kathryn Rumptz and Williams took first in the 400 relay in 54.72 seconds.
