Haven golfers settle for 5th in O-K Red

Grand Haven's varsity boys golf team had a strong head-to-head record against O-K Red Conference teams, but the Buccaneers struggled in the preseason and postseason league tournaments. On Thursday, the Bucs shot a team score of 330 to place third at the O-K Red postseason touranment after placing fifth at the midseason event. Coupled with their regular-season points, Grand Haven settled for fifth place in the final league standings.

“It was a good season for the guys. We are still maturing as a team,” said coach Randy WHite. “We were disappointed with our end of the season position in the conference, but we did have some success in team goals. We played our lowest 18-hole round of the year at postseason conference of 330.”

The Bucs also beat the conference champion, Rockford, on the Rams’ home course.

Senior Ben Lewis carded an 80 at Thursday’s event and earned first-team all-conference honors. Mark Nalley shot an 81, Patrick Ferris an 84 and Reid Murphy an 85 for the Bucs.

Kevin LaCroix shot an 89 and was an all-conference honorable mention. John Morehouse carded a 98.
