Grand Haven’s defense was its shining star, keeping the Highlanders’ offense in check.

“The defense did a really nice job shutting down Howell’s offense,” Grand Haven assistant coach Lee Ingalls said. “Our rides were very effective during Howell’s clear attempts, forcing multiple turnovers. We’re causing turnovers, owning the ground balls and creating offense from the successful clears.

Ingalls highlighted the strong play of Everett Ingalls and Mulcahy, who led the team in caused turnovers and ground balls.

Despite dealing with injuries, the Bucs had other players step up against Howell.

“We had a depleted lineup and midfield and attack, but our younger guys were forced to step up,” Ingalls said. “We were in the right place and ran our system. Good things happen when we execute the plan.”
