Prep roundup: SL golf shows a little Love in win over MCC

Connor Love shot a round of 39, helping Spring Lake's boys golf team beat Muskegon Catholic Central on Monday, 161-180. Henry McGannon shot a 40 for Spring Lake while David Bonter and Nick Parnell each shot a 41. "We had tight scores there, but I'd like them a little lower,' coach George Bitner said. "It was a little windy, so I was OK with the scores under those conditions.' The Lakers wrap up the Lakes Eight Conference portion of their schedule with a pair of jamborees at Brian Hill Golf Course in Fremont on Thursday.

GH SOCCER MERCIES MUSKEGON

Freshman Mallory Beswick scored twice as Grand Haven’s varsity girls soccer team registered a mercy-rule shortened 8-0 victory over Muskegon in the second round of the O-K Red Conference tournament.

Lydia Weykamp, Katie VanZytveld, Hannah Rymal, Sarah Kober, Karissa Winkler and Aliina Weykamp also scored for Grand Haven, which suffered a disappointing loss to Hudsonville in the opening round of the league tournament.

The Bucs, now 7-6-2 overall, play in the final round of the league tournament on Wednesday before traveling  to Fruitport on Friday.
Grand Haven will take part in Division 1 district tournament at Jenison next week.
