Warriors' soccer closes regular season with win

Western Michigan Christian's girls soccer team concluded its regular season with a 3-2 win over host Orchard View Wednesday, finishing with a 9-8 record. Orchard View scored first when a shot in the first minute of play was stopped by senior goalkeeper Lauren Merz, only to be knocked back in by an on-rushing Orchard View forward to give the home team the early 1-0 lead.

The Warriors would get that one back with 25 minutes remaining in the first half when Rachel Karsten found Orchard View transfer Timera Crosby, who pushed the ball behind the defense and battled her way into the box and slid the ball underneath the Cardinals’ keeper to knot it up 1-1.

Crosby then sent a similar ball in to freshman Anne DeKam, who fought her way in for her first goal of the year and put the Warriors up 2-1. That lead would not hold long as OV tied it up 2-2 heading into the intermission.
