Westerman, Burnside named GH's Sluka Award winners

Grand Haven High School held its annual athletic awards banquet Wednesday evening, highlighting the best and brightest student-athletes and coaches of the past year. GHHS' highest athletic honor - the Steve Sluka Award - was presented to seniors Jerry Westerman and Lindsey Burnside.

Westerman was an honorable mention all-state linebacker for the Bucs’ football team during the fall, and also an all-state wrestler in the winter. Grand Haven captured a share of the O-K Red Conference title in football, and captured a district championship in wrestling.

Burnside was a standout low-post presence on the hardwood, helping lead the Bucs’ varsity girls basketball team to the Class A state semifinals and a trip to the Breslin Center in East Lansing. She also turned in a solid volleyball and soccer seasons for the Bucs this season.
