College Showcase: GH's Hall provides boost for U-M rowing

Riley Hall, a 2008 Grand Haven graduate, recently wrapped up a successful season as a member of the University of Michigan rowing team. One of the highlights of Hall's season was a victory with the Wolverines' Men's Varsity 8 team at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia on May 14 - the nation's largest rowing regatta with over 140 colleges and 3,000 rowers competiting in the two-day event. Hall's Varsity 8 team finished first with a boat length margin, and a time of 5 minutes, 48.65 seconds to claim the coveted Aberdeen Trophy.

The victory helped the Wolverines win the men’s points total for the event.

At the American Collegiate Rowing Association Championships in Gainsville, Ga., on May 28-29, Hall and the Varsity 8 team had another successful showing, as they took second to the University of Virginia in the Men’s Varsity Eight Grand Final.

Hall, a junior who is studying mechanical engineering at U-M, is the son of Larry and Doree Hall.
