Fruitport's top prep athletes recognized

Fruitport High School recently named seniors Aaron Covert and Lindsey Timmer as its Senior Student-Athletes of the Year during the Trojans' senior awards banquet. Timmer enjoyed success in four different sports at Fruitport, with her top accomplishments coming in competitive cheer. She was the team's co-captain and a first-team all-conference selection in the Lakes Eight Conference this winter. She also ran track and played volleyball for three seasons, and was a sideline cheerleader this fall.

Timmer, who sports a 4.127 grade point average, will attend Grand Valley State University, where she’ll pursue Business Management. She hopes to one day become a CEO of a hospital.

Covert was a standout goalie for the Trojans’ soccer team and also enjoyed success on the football field during his high school career.

Covert, who compiled a 3.93 grade point average, was an all-state academic honoree in soccer, and earned honorable mention academic all-state honors in football.

He also bowled on the Trojans’ varsity team for two years and ran varsity track for four seasons.

Covert will attend Michigan State University, but eventually hopes to become an ambassador to a foreign country after a career in the Air Force.
