SLIT to tee off 90th year on Monday

One of the oldest women's match play golf events in the country returns to Spring Lake Country Club next week. The Spring Lake Invitational will hold its 90th tournament when this year's event kicks off with 18 holes of qualifying stroke play on Monday. Flighted match play will follow on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. According to event organizer Mary Kay Taylor, the SLIT has become so popular over the last several years that another flight was added for this year's event.

“We had such a response this year that we added another flight, so we’ll have 80 girls instead of 72,” Taylor said. “The girls just love to come to the tournament. They have a little network where if one of them moves or changes addresses, changes e-mail and they don’t get an invitational, they still know when the tournament is, and they have to get in early, because the last couple years, we’ve had a waiting list. We still have a waiting list this year, even with going to 80 golfers.”
