7 area soccer standouts earn all-state honors

Grand Haven senior Aliina Weykamp and Spring Lake senior Katie Smith each earned second-team all-state girls soccer honors for their outstanding seasons this past spring. Weykamp, who has committed to play soccer at the University of Illinois next year, was a four-year starter for the Bucs.

Smith joined the Lakers’ varsity squad near the end of her freshman season, then guided Spring Lake to Lakes Eight Conference championships the following three years. As a senior, she scored eight goals and led the team with nine assists, helping the Lakers reach the Division 2 regional championship game.

The Lakers’ Kelsey Kippe earned Division 2 all-state honorable mention. The junior who moved from defense to offense as was Spring Lake’s leading scorer this season with 12 goals.

Fruitport senior Lynsie Haan earned third-team all-state for coach David Hulings’ Trojans.

On the Division 4 team, Western Michigan Christian junior Rachel Karsten earned second-team honors. Senior goalie Lauren Merz was a third-team all-state selection, and junior Timera Crosby received honorable mention.
