GH Triathlon a welcome remedy for Dr. Bakker

The Grand Haven Triathlon routinely draws a handful of some of the most accomplished triathletes from not only across the state of Michigan, but throughout the nation. As a competitor at the 2009 Half Ironman World Championship in Clearwater, Fla., last year's Ironman competition in Lake Placid, N.Y., and other major events, Grand Haven's Dr. Dirk Bakker falls into that elite category.

Although he’s persevered through the grueling test of endurance on the national stage, Bakker looks forward to his hometown triathlon the most, and for good reason.
Bakker, an orthopedic surgeon, founded Grand Haven Bone and Joint in 2001. It will once again be the title sponsor of the Grand Haven Triathlon, with competitors plunging into the waters of Lake Michigan during the opening stage Sunday morning.
