Hansen was also named the Horizon League Player of the Week for the first time in her career on April 20, after she carded an 81 at Bowling Green.

The Titans finished runner-up in the Horizon League championship.

In all, 566 women’s collegiate golfers were recognized for the prestigious honor. The minimum GPA for those selected is 3.50.

Hansen recently showcased her skills during the Spring Lake Invitational Tournament on June 22-24 at Spring Lake Country Club. She finished runner-up in the Championship Flight to defending champion Maureen Whitehead.

BITNER EARNS PRESTIGIOUS NOMINATION

Spring Lake varsity golf coach George Bitner has been selected by the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Assocation as a candidate for national coach of the year honors.

This is Bitner’s second nomination for the national honor. He was a finalist in 2007.

Bitner experienced tremendous success in his 42nd season of coaching this year. He led the Lakers’ boys team to a Lakes Eight Conference championship and also a berth to the Division 2 state finals, where the Lakers finished sixth.

In the fall, Bitner guided the Lakers’ girls varsity golf team to their sixth-straight Lakes Eight title.
