GVSU boasts nation's top women's running program

The Grand Valley State women's cross country and track and field programs left little doubt that the Lakers would be the best Division II running program in the country this year. For the third consecutive season, Grand Valley State has been named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Program of the Year, as released by the national office in New Orleans recently.

This year, the Lakers won their first NCAA Division II national championships in cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track to secure that honor.

And this year’s group could be considered best of all time, as Grand Valley State became the first women’s program in any division in NCAA history to win all three running national titles in the same academic year.

Grand Valley State head coach Jerry Baltes, assistant coaches Joe Lynn (distance events) and Cory Young (throws) also were honored as national coaches of the year by the USTFCCCA on Friday.
