Runners take to the trails at Ferrysburg's Coast Guard Park

Light rain and humidity didn't stop more than a hundred runners from taking part in the 2011 Coast Guard Park Trail Run at Coast Guard Park in Ferrysburg on Saturday morning. Todd Losee, race director for Inspirational Racing, the company behind the run, said he estimated about 160 runners took part in this year's run. "We've had a real good turnout,' Losee said. "We've had about a 50-percent increase over last year, so it's been a real nice increase in people.'

The 4-mile race starts and finishes at the east end of the park, taking runners through the variety of terrain in and around the Ferrysburg park.

“It is beautiful," Losee said of the course. "It is one of the most beautiful courses and it is a fun run.”

Losee said the event proceeds benefit the Faith Marie Losee Fund at the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, which was named after Todd and his wife Diane’s daughter, who was stillborn in 2006. The goal of the fund is to raise money to provide infant medical equipment to neonatal departments at local hospitals.

“We’re just thrilled to be able to have the opportunity to come out and give people the chance to run and reach their goals, and raise money for a great cause,” Losee said.
