College Showcase: MCC a winner in first-ever men's soccer game

The first-ever varsity soccer game for Muskegon Community College was a rousing success on Saturday. Behind a hat trick from Reeths-Puffer graduate Nate Schmitt, the Jayhawks pulled out a 4-3 victory over Ancilla (Ind.) College at Orchard View High School.

Schmitt beat Ancilla sophomore goalie Alex Howe, a Spring Lake graduate, just four minutes into the contest for the game’s opening score. Ancilla tied the contest at 1-1 six minutes later, but Schmitt struck again shortly after, with the assist credited to Grand Haven graduate Paul Ortega, Jr.
