Haven tennis no match for West Ottawa

Grand Haven's varsity boys tennis team was no match for O-K Red Conference favorite West Ottawa on Wednesday, falling to the Panthers, 8-0. The Buccaneers went down in straight sets in each flight. At No. 3 doubles, the Bucs' Phil Chalifoux and Craig Peplinski played well, falling to Brandon Ballard and Mark VanderStoep, 6-3, 6-4.

At second doubles, Grand Haven’s Ryan Peterson and Adam Carlisle had a strong first set, losing 7-5 to West Ottawa’s Dylan Werley and Joe Miller. The second set was a different story as the Panthers’ duo won, 6-0.

The closest singles match came at No. 2, where West Ottawa’s Lucas Driesenga edged Grand Haven’s Korey Searle, 6-4, 6-4.

The Buccaneers return to action on Sept. 7, when they travel to Rockford to take on the rival Rams.
