Fruitport tribute touches Rueger family

There were plenty of tears shed Thursday night as former Fruitport football coach Larry Rueger was honored prior to the Trojans' victory over Newaygo. Rueger served as the Trojans' defensive coordinator the past 22 years. He passed away on July 28 due to kidney failure. He was 70 years old.

The Trojans unveiled Rueger Rock on Thursday, a large football-shaped rock bearing a bronze plaque that features a picture of Rueger; an image of his thumb print, which he left on the program; and the words, “Hey, Coach! Through football and music you touched my life and made me a better person.”
