Fruitport football to hold 9/11 ceremony prior to kickoff

Prior to kickoff of Friday's varsity football game, Fruitport Community Schools will hold a brief ceremony recognizing the 10th anniversary of the attacks on America on Sept. 11, 2001. Those who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces will be admitted to the game for free and will be asked to come down onto the track for the national anthem. "We consider this a small way to say thanks for protecting our freedom and safety on a daily basis,' Trojans' athletic director Ken Erny said in a press release.

“Additionally, it is a way to model our students that we should not forget the sacrifices of those who have come before us.”

Friday’s varsity football game against Tri-County begins at 7 p.m. at the Fruitport High School football field. Participants are asked to meet at the entrance of the track by 6:45 p.m.
