Adams helps SL golf claim another league title

Elinor Adams took the prep golf scene by storm last fall, placing 14th at the Division 3 state meet. She's not sneaking up on anybody this year. In fact, the Lakers' junior feels the weight of lofty expectations pressing heavily on her shoulders, and those expectations have had an adverse affect upon her game. "I definitely feel the pressure this year,' Adams said after turning in the top score - a 44 - at Tuesday's Lakes Eight Conference Jamboree at Spring Lake Country Club.

“I feel like I’m expected to do more than I can do. Last year was easier because I had (then-senior) Eryn Gregory in front of me.”

Coach George Bitner said he sees Adams slowly getting used to playing as the favorite in most matches she competes in.

“Elinor, people expect more out of her, but we’ve stayed with her and encouraged her, and she’s overcoming it.”

Despite the pressure she feels, Adams has guided the Lakers to yet another outstanding season. With a victory at Tuesday’s league jamboree, Spring Lake essentially wrapped up its seventh consecutive league championship.
