Cole leads Buccaneers' volleyball to victory

Abby Cole celebrated her 16th birthday on Thursday the same way she's celebrated every other day on the volleyball court - by dominating the opposition. Cole, Grand Haven's 6-foot-5 junior who has committed to play for the University of Michigan, recorded team highs with 12 kills, four aces and four blocks, helping the Buccaneers dominated O-K Red Conference foe Hudsonville, 25-22, 25-20, 25-22 on the Bucs' Purple Out celebration.

Grand Haven wore purple uniforms as part of the Purple Out night. They sold T-shirts and did other fundraisers to help support cancer research and awareness.

"My grandma is a survivor of breast cancer," Cole said. "As a team, this makes us realize how fortunate we are. This gave us something to play for."
