WMC soccer falls in shootout

Host Western Michigan Christian came from two goals behind Saturday to tie non-conference Muskegon Reeths-Puffer 2-2 late regulation and take the lead 3-2 in overtime, only to lose 4-3 after the Rockets won in a shootout. The Rockets scored two goals in the game's first three minutes, only to see the Warriors tie the game with two goals of their own in the span of less than two minutes. Kameron Fowler gave the Rockets a 1-0 lead just 21 seconds into the game and Eric Hilt scored 2 minutes later to make it 2-0 for the visitors.

Alec Breit scored on a penalty kick and Matt Wisen scored with an assist from Chaise Schuiteman to even the score for WMC (6-2-1).

The Warriors put on heavy offensive pressure throughout the second half, but could not produce a go-ahead goal. With eight seconds remaining in the first overtime,

WMC junior Lucas Negan scored after the Rocket goal had been vacated by keeper Thomas Swiatek.

In the second overtime, Austin Blaski pushed a shot behind Warrior keeper Jacob Berens and the game was tied again.

The Rockets (3-6-1) captured the victory after all five of its shooters connected in the shootout compared with four for WMC.
