Tennis roundup: SL 3rd at Holland Quad

Spring Lake's varsity boys tennis team scored eight points to place third out of four teams at Saturday's Holland Quad. Mitch Davis scored one point for the Lakers by going 1-2 at No. 3 singles. His win came against Lowell. Harrison Palmer and Stuart Velarde went 2-1 at No. 2 doubles, with wins over Lowell and Holland. Jonah Yoshonis and Erik Johnson also went 2-1 and were declared flight champions at third doubles after scoring wins over Lowell and Holland. Brenden Peel and Josh Cole were unbeaten at fourth doubles.

Nic Parnell moved from 1 doubles to 1 singles to fill in for the injured Ryan Fedewa and played well, despite going 0-3. Gabriel Guzman also played well at No. 2 singles.

Zeeland East won the event with 18 points, followed by Holland with 15. Lowell scored seven points.

BUCS FOURTH AT HOLLAND CHRISTIAN

Grand Haven placed fourth at Saturday’s Ross Nykamp Tennis Invitational, hosted by Holland Christian, finishing with nine points.

The highlight for the Bucs came at second singles, where Korey Searle took home the flight championship.

Grand Haven’s D.J. Theilbar went 1-2 at No. 4 singles, scoring a 7-5, 6-4 win over Holland Christian.

The Bucs’ No. 1 singles team of Issac Bowen and Cam Rickard scored a win, while the No. 2 pair of Ryan Peterson and Adam Carlisle went 2-1. Phil Chalifoux and Craig Peplinski also went 2-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Sturgis won the event with 14 points, followed by Holland Christian with 13 and Mona Shores with 12.
