Prep Roundup: Olszewski paces SL golf

Spring Lake's girls golfers hosted Kenowa Hills on Monday and scored a 201-241 win over the visiting Knights. Ginny Olszewski paced the Lakers with a round of 45, followed by Chezney Peel with a 47. Tori Kihnke added a 52, and Faith Lee shot a 57 for Spring Lake. The Lakers compete in their final regular-season meet on Thursday as they take on Whitehall and Muskegon Catholic, then will travel to Big Rapids for the Division 3 regional meet on Oct. 6.

Junior Varsity: Katie Marouse shot a 59 and Emily Marine added a 64, boosting Spring Lake to a 265-270 win over Kenowa Hills.

WMC VOLLEYBALL WINS EASILY

Western Michigan Christian’s varsity folleyball team cruised past Freedom Christian on Monday, 25-13, 25-18, 25-15.

The Warriors were led by Elyse Rays 10 kills and five blocks.

Rachel Bruinsma added 14 kills, four blocks and nine digs, while Julie Merz had seven service points and 25 assists.

Vanessa Eekhoff served tough with 10 points, including four aces, while Ashley Ott had four digs.

GH TENNIS COMES UP SHORT

Grand Haven’s varsity boys tennis team suffered a 5-3 loss to East Kentwood on Monday.

The Buccaneers’ lone singles win came at No. 3, where D.J. Thielbar defeated Tien-Ahn Tran, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2.
The Bucs also scored a pair of doubles wins. Ryan Peterson and Adam Carlisle won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2, while Phil Chalifoux and Craig Peplinski won 6-0, 6-0 at No.3.

This was the final O-K Red Conference dual meet of the fall. The conference tournament will take place Saturday in Jenison.
