Haven soccer still unbeaten

Grand Haven's varsity boys soccer team remained unbeaten with a 5-0 win over Hudsonville on Monday. The Buccaneers (9-0-3, 5-0 O-K Red) received a boost from a few unlikely sources, including Steve Heyboer, who scored a pair of first-half goals. Defender Kevin Lacroix also scored as he put a corner kick into the Eagles' net. Nate Rose and Andrew Byrne added goals for the Bucs, while Drew Mestrom, Gerrit Schaap, Willie Bennick and Jake Vanderlaan added assists.

Ethan Beswick recorded the shutout in goal.

“We needed to shake things up, and it was good to see that second group step up and score some goals,” Bucs’ coach Aaron Dean said. “Steve Heyboer, Mestrom and Ian Yetzke all stepped up pretty well, and Spencer Toepfer has had a couple good games. They came in and gave us a boost, and that’s what we’ve needed.”
The Bucs, who are ranked No. 6 in the latest Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association poll, take on Grandville for Senior Night on Thursday.

Junior Varsity: Grand Haven ripped Forest Hills Central on Saturday, 5-1, then mercied Hudsonville on Monday, 8-0. The Buccaneers (7-2 overall, 3-1 O-K Red) received two goals each from Adrien Chavez, Andrew Heatherington and Kaan Ozadali while Jon Buitenhuis and Nick Scarpino also scored against the Eagles.
