SL volleyball slips past scrappy Orioles in 3

Spring Lake's varsity volleyball team remained locked in second place in the Lakes Eight Conference following its closer-than-expected three-game sweep of host Ludington on Tuesday. The Lakers' largest point differential at the end was just three points. They squeaked out a Game 1 win, 27-25, took Game 2, 25-22, then completed the sweep with a 25-23 victory in Game 3.

“In the first game we were ahead the entire game and let them back in towards the end but finally were able to close,” said Spring Lake coach Sarah Bulthuis. “In the second and third games we were behind and had to come back to tie at 22 and 20 consecutively.

“Ludington is a much- improved team, they play scrappy defense and kept sending the ball back. We had to work for every kill we had.”
