Kriger helps SL pound winless OV

Spring Lake's Lakes Eight Conference victory over Orchard View on Friday was a little less dramatic than its thrilling one-point win over rival Fruitport last week, but the Lakers don't mind. They're still atop the league standings, which is now a three-way tie between the Lakers, Fruitport and Fremont. The Lakers (5-1) easily handled their business, outscoring the host Cardinals 28-0 in the second half, en route to a 49-16 victory.

Senior running back T.J. Kriger had a big night for the Lakers, totaling 144 yards on the ground with one touchdown. As a team, the Lakers amassed 376 rushing yards.

The winless Cardinals got the Lakers’ attention early, taking an 8-0 lead after one quarter thanks to a 57-yard touchdown run by Justin Hunter-Smith.

Spring Lake responded quickly, scoring three-straight touchdowns in the second quarter — a 13-yard run by Kriger, a 5-yard scamper by Johnny Mundt and a 6-yard score by  Keegan Wolter.
