Soccer roundup: Haven advances to O-K Red tourney title game

Jake Vanderlaan scored just 25 seconds into Monday's game, helping the Grand Haven varsity soccer team pull out a 3-1 victory over Jenison. That win moves the Buccaneers into Wednesday's O-K Red Conference tournament title game against East Kentwood. The Falcons, the top seed in the tournament, beat Rockord in Monday's other semifinal game, 2-0. Vanderlaan scored his second goal three minutes after his first, putting the Bucs on top 2-0. Nate Rose then scored to finish off the scoring for the Bucs.

Rose, Gerrit Schaap and Willie Bennick each added assists for the Bucs, who are now 16-1 on the season and ranked No. 6 in Division 1. The Falcons, who edged the Bucs 3-2 last week, are currently ranked No. 2.
